President Waheed ratifies Domestic Violence Bill in Maldives

President Dr Mohamed Waheed ratified the first bill in the Maldives for the prevention of domestic violence. Goals of the Domestic Violence Act include protection, safety, crime reduction, law enforcement action, violence prevention, and awareness. Waheed has also proposed child and human rights resolutions in hopes of making the maldives a more happy and livable place.
Thoughts:
Human rights must be guaranteed. Men do not have the right to abuse women in the sanctitude of their home, and children should be able to sleep knowing their safety is ensured. The Domestic Violence Act is a powerful to in limiting domestic violence in the Maldives; but law enforcement and civilians must do their part in alerting the government of domestic violence in order to protect all people.

A functioning and efficient government must meet and exceed the needs of the people. Abuse only inhibits growth and developement within a community and the Domestic Violence Act not only protects civilians, but also allows the Maldives to advance and gain a greater political stature through the happiness of its people.
