Summary:
Slovakian Prime Minister, Robert Fico, is attempting to form a minority government. The ruling Smer party had gained more votes than the opposing parties but failed to gain a parliamentary majority. Fico has been asked by President Ivan Gasparovic to form a government. Fico will establish a new cabinet in Slovakia, choosing members based on election statistics. If Fico fails to form a government in the next few days, Radicova will then be asked to do so. If that happens, she will become the country’s first-ever female prime minister.
Thoughts:
Living in the United States, I do not fully understand the separation of powere between Prime Minister and President. But Fico is in an excellent position to advance his position by forming a cohesive government. His decisions must reflect the goals of the people in order to maintain efficiency and peace throughout Slovakia. People trust their leader, and in order for Slovakia to economically and politically progress, Fico must step in and build a strong, fruitful cabinet.
Importance:
Slovakia is in an economic slump. In order for Slovakia to achieve economic stability and future political dominance in central Europe, Fico must choose his cabinent wisely. Elections only occur once every few years, so Fico's decision is pivitol in a country longing for change.
